Call of Duty Black Ops 6 Complete Guide

Black Ops 6 is the 24th mainline entry in the Call of Duty series, developed by Treyarch and set during the Gulf War period.

Below, you’ll find TRAN HUNG DAO School’s coverage of everything you need to know about the game, including new game features, maps and modes, and recommended weapon loadouts you can use to tear up multiplayer lobbies.

Beginners Guide

Plenty is changing in Call of Duty this year. With an all-new movement system and a return to the classic Prestige system, there’s a lot to go over, even if you’ve played plenty of the series in the past.

Our beginner’s guide will get you up to speed on everything you need to know about the game.

Pre-order Guide

If you’ve already made your mind up about purchasing this year’s Call of Duty, then you might want to consider pre-ordering the game.

We’ve rounded up the best deals you can find and explained what’s included in each of the different editions in our pre-order guide.

Beta Information

There will be a beta period for gamers to play Black Ops 6 early a few months before the game launches properly in October.

Our guide explains what you need to do to gain access, when the beta is expected to take place, and all the content that will be included.

Multiplayer

Multiplayer is the tentpole game mode of any Call of Duty game, and this year’s instalment is no different.

FAQs

Whether you’re curious about the voice actors in the game or want to know how big the total download size is, we’ve got all that covered and much more in our Frequently Asked Questions section.

Co-op split-screen

The game will feature a co-op split-screen for up to two players, but only on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. This was confirmed on the official Reddit.

Activision has said that Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will not be supported to retain performance integrity on those platforms. It didn’t clarify if this mode will exist on PC.

We’re also not sure which of the gameplay modes this pertains to. The split-screen co-op mode will likely be available for Zombies, as that is a staple mode of play for the series. It’s also likely that multiplayer will be playable in this way.

The campaign of Black Ops 6 will be single-player only, so that won’t support any split-screen play.

Crossplay and cross-progression

Like most of the Call of Duty games before it, the game will support crossplay and cross-progression across all platforms. If you play on PlayStation 5, you can play against or with those playing on Xbox Series X|S or PC, for example. An icon will be displayed in the lobby to denote whether a player is using a mouse and keyboard or a controller.

Likewise, if you own Black Ops 6 on multiple platforms, you can take your progress with you across each one. As long as you’re logged into the same Activision account on each platform, you’ll see your progression unlocks carry over each time you swap between them.

Download size

We don’t know the exact download size of Black Ops 6 just yet, but we do know that it won’t be as large as players initially thought.

The pre-order page for the game initially reported that the download size would be somewhere in the region of 300 GB. However, Activision has since clarified that figure to include MW2, MW3, Warzone, BO6, and other relevant content packs.

Correction: The estimated file size currently displayed on the Black Ops 6 pre-order pages does not represent the download size or disk footprint for Black Ops 6.

The sizes as shown include the full installations of Modern Warfare II, Modern Warfare III, Warzone…

In reality, the install size of this year’s Call of Duty will likely be much closer to the 100GB mark, if we use the last few games as a benchmark. I’ll update this guide when we have an actual figure.

Steam Deck

Black Ops 6 currently isn’t verified to run on Steam Deck, and it’s unlikely that it will ever run natively on the platform without installing another operating system. The Call of Duty games feature a kernel-level anti-cheat system that prevents Linux-based hardware from accessing the game at all.

While this is ultimately to limit the number of cheaters in the game, it ultimately means that you aren’t able to play Call of Duty on Steam Deck right out of the box. The only way to play Black Ops 6 on a portable device will be to install a version of Windows to your device and play the game that way, but this comes with its own set of performance and compatibility problems.

Ultimately, I don’t recommend trying to play this game on Steam Deck.
