Lee had studied dance and trained in the Wing Chun style of kung fu under Yip Man before settling down to attend college in America. A mix of boxing and cha-cha dancing that he later evolved into a distinctive fighting style that finally became one of his legacies in Hong Kong.
Being an accomplished martial artist without being a master, Lee established a network of kung fu training facilities in Seattle where he imparted his unique style of fighting. Bruce Lee created history at his school when he became the first Caucasian in America to teach Kung Fu.
Lee accepted students without regard to their race or ethnicity, which ultimately brought him into conflict with Wong Jack Man when the legendary altercation between Wong Jack Man and Bruce Lee broke out.
