Brian Mills was the ex-husband of Brigit Forsyth. He was born on October 25, 1933, and died on June 3, 2006. His directing credits span the television programs Sherlock Holmes on Granada, Strangers, Bulman, First Among Equals, and Coronation Street. He was the first director in television history to have helmed Coronation Street episodes for all five of the show’s initial decades.
Brigit Forsyth career
With the Gateway Theatre Company in Edinburgh, Forsyth started her professional career in 1960–61. She then relocated to the Arthur Brough Players in Folkestone in 1962 after appearing at the Theatre Royal in Lincoln from 1961 to 1962. She became Forsyth after returning to Lincoln and changing her professional name.
She made her screen debut as a district nurse in the Roald Dahl-penned The Night Digger (1971). She also acted as Thelma Ferris in a 1976 adaptation of The Likely Lads.
From the age of nine, Forsyth played the cello; however, she gave it up to attend drama school. Her talent was put to use in 2004 when she was chosen for the lead role in the play Cello and the Nightingale, which was about the well-known cellist Beatrice Harrison and had its premiere at York Theatre Royal. She also wrote and performed the music for Killing Time (2019), an off-Broadway production, and played the cello in it.
Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads? (1972–1974), in which Forsyth played Thelma Chambers / Thelma Ferris, is the most well-known television role.

She made appearances as a guest star in several other TV series, including Coronation Street, The Bill, Doctor Who, and Agatha Christie’s Poirot.

After making an appearance in the 2013 Still Open All Hours Christmas special, Forsyth returned for a full season on December 26, 2014, as Madge, the sister of Maggie Ollerenshaw’s character Mavis.
Her debut performance was in Ian Talbot’s production of High Society at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre in 2003.
2013 saw Forsyth play the recurring role of Pearl in Ed Reardon’s Week and as Mrs. Jennings in Helen Edmundson’s BBC Radio 4 production of Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility.
In 2008, she performed in Calendar Girls, and in 2013, she appeared in Alan Bennett’s People. She had previously portrayed the role of Coral Browne in a Radio 4 production of Bennett’s Single Spies. She made an appearance in the 2015 London Arcola Theatre production of Now This is Not the End.
