Bradley Lowery was a passionate Sunderland fan and attended matches as the mascot, winning the hearts of the nation before dying from a rare leukemia.
The six-year-old Sunderland fan, who formed a close friendship with the team’s striker Jermain Defoe after being diagnosed with neuroblastoma, died in 2017 after helping to raise more than $1 million for charity.
Bradley Lowery has become Sunderland’s mascot on several occasions, with fans chanting his name during matches and holding up banners reading: “Cancer has no color.” Bradley Lowery and Defoe Sunderland players from 2015 to 2017 also led England to Wembley for the World Cup qualifier against Lithuania.
Following the incident, more than £11,000 was raised for the Bradley Lowery Foundation, a charity set up following the schoolboy’s death. The money will go towards a holiday home for families of terminally ill children that the organization is building in Scarborough, which it has named Super Brads Pad.
