In 1975, Belichick started his coaching career and was promoted to defensive coordinator of the New York Giants by Bill Parcells in 1985.
Before Belichick left in 1991 to take over as coach of the Cleveland Browns, Parcells, and Bill Belichick captured two Super Bowl titles together. He’s been in Cleveland for 5 years, and after the 1995 season, he was let go.
He rejoined Parcells, first in New England where the team lost Super Bowl XXXI, and later with the New York Jets. After only one day as head coach with the New York Jets, on January 27, 2000, Belichick stepped down from his post and accepted an offer to be Head Coach of the New England Patriots.
From that point on, he led the New England Patriots to 17 AFC East division crowns, 13 conference championship games, and nine Super Bowl appearances with a record six wins.
Overall, Belichick has won eight Super Bowl titles (the most of any individual in NFL history) and finished as runner-up four times from his combined time as an assistant and head coach.
The head coach with the longest tenure in the NFL is Bill Belichick, who also holds the NFL record for most regular season victories (398) and postseason victories (31) in history.
