Alan Wake has made his way into The Fog of Dead by Daylight, so we’ve rounded up our picks for some of the best Perk builds that you should be running on him to help you survive in the game.
Joining the likes of Ellen Ripley and Nicolas Cage, Alan Wake, fresh from the success of his own game (and one of our games of the year in 2023) is bound to shine a light in the dark as he takes on some of the most malevolent Killers.
Editor Note:
These builds were created on the PTB – we’ll update this article in the coming days if any additional combinations with Alan Wake’s Perks arise.

Below you’ll find builds that complement each of Alan Wake’s unique Perks in DbD. These include some of the best Survivor Perks that may even counteract some of the best Perks that the Killers bring.

What would Alan Wake be without his trusty flashlight? Well, Champion of Light puts that at the forefront and gives the item that all Killers fear a huge boost.
Perk | Survivor | Description |
Champion of Light | Alan Wake | While you are holding a flashlight, this Perk activates. When you are shining a flashlight, you have 50% Haste. When you successfully blind the Killer, they also gain 20% Hindered for 6 seconds. This effect cannot stack with itself. Then, this Perk goes into cooldown for up to 60 seconds. |
Background Player | Renato Lyra | When the Killer picks up another Survivor, Background Player activates for 10 seconds. When you start running, break into a sprint at 200% of your normal running speed for 5 seconds. This Perk causes the Exhausted status effect for 40 seconds. |

Residual Manifest | Haddie Kaur | After a successful Killer Blind action, the Killer is affected by the Blindness status effect for 30 seconds. This Perk grants the ability to rummage through an opened chest once per trial and will guarantee a basic Flashlight. |
Deadline build
We’ve all been there, a tight deadline can be a thing of terror. However, Alan Wake takes this pressure and runs with it with his Deadline Perk, which enhances the power of Skill Checks.
Perk | Survivor | Description |
Deadline | Alan Wake | This Perk activates when you are injured. Skill Checks appear up to 10% more frequently when repairing or healing and appear in random places. The penalty for missing skills checks is reduced by 50%. |

Hyperfocus | Rebecca Chambers | After hitting a great Skill Check while repairing or healing, this Perk gains 1 token, up to 6 tokens. Each token increases the chance of a Skill Check trigger by 4%, the Skill Check cursor speed by 4% and the bonus progression for great Skill Checks by 30% of its base value. The Perk loses all tokens in case of normal Skill Check successes, fails or if the action is stopped by any means. |
Fogwise | Vittorio Toscano | Hitting a Great Skill Check while repairing a Generator reveals the Killer’s aura to you for 6 seconds. |
Boon: Illumination build
