Best moveset for Gardevoir in Pokemon GO & is it any good?

One of the first Spotlight Hours of 2024 features Ralts, so naturally, Trainers will be wondering how Ralts’ Evolution, Gardevoir, holds up against the top performers in Pokemon GO.

Originally introduced in Generation III, let’s review the best moveset for the Psychic/Fairy-type Pokemon and if it’s able to go toe-to-toe with the popular picks in the Great, Ultra, and Master Leagues.

Best moveset for Gardevoir in Pokemon GO

The best moveset for Gardevoir in PvP Battles is Charm as a Fast Move paired with Triple Axel and Shadow Ball as Charged Moves.

Charm is one of the strongest Fast Moves in all of Pokemon GO, capable of dealing massive STAB Damage without the risk of drawing Shields. The downside of Charm is that it doesn’t generate much Energy, making it difficult to pressure opponents with Charged Moves. However, Triple Axel and Shadow Ball are the perfect Charged Moves to couple with Charm.

Neither Triple Axel nor Shadow Ball requires a ton of Energy, so the lack of Energy that Charm produces isn’t as significant of a handicap. Additionally, Triple Axel boosts Gardevoir’s Attack, further boosting the power of Charm while also baiting Shields. Shadow Ball, on the other hand, is an excellent Coverage Nuke, particularly against one of Gardevoir’s primary counters, Ghost-type Pokemon.

If you’re looking to use Gardevoir as a Raid attacker, you’ll want to go with a Fairy-type moveset like Charm and Dazzling Gleam as this is where it gets a chance to shine.

All moves Gardevoir can learn in Pokemon GO

Gardevoir has access to four Fast Moves and five Charged Moves, so nine moves altogether. Here’s the entire selection of moves available to Gardevoir in Pokemon GO:

Fast Moves

  • Confusion
  • Magical Leaf
  • Charm
  • Charge Beam

Charged Moves

  • Triple Axel
  • Shadow Ball
  • Synchronoise
  • Dazzling Gleam
  • Psychic

Gardevoir can learn the majority of these moves with Fast or Charged TMs, but if you want a Gardevoir that knows Synchronoise, you must get it during select events or use a Charged TM.

Is Gardevoir any good?

While the Embrace Pokemon is certainly not a staple of the meta, Gardevoir is actually pretty good, particularly when fulfilling the Fairy-type role on Ultra League and Master League teams in Trainer Battles.

Gardevoir is sort of an anti-meta specialist, able to counter Fighting, Dark, and Dragon-types, some of the most popular and common encounters in Trainer Battles. Shadow Gardevoir is even better, as it’s capable of wearing opposing Pokemon down with Charm faster than any other Charm user in Pokemon GO.

However, while Gardevoir sports an impressive Attack stat, its lack of bulk is a notable shortcoming. And although its dual Psychic/Fairy-typing has its benefits, the Psychic-typing leaves it vulnerable to top-ranking Pokemon like Registeel and Giratina.

Overall, a Charm-wielding Gardevoir is a fine Pokemon, but it does have its deficiencies. With the right teammates around it, Gardevoir can thrive in the Ultra and Master Leagues, and it’s great for surprising rival Trainers who love to exclusively utilise meta Pokemon.

But, unfortunately, if you battle with Gardevoir long enough, you’ll find that it’s countered by too many of the top-ranking Pokemon to justify using against high-ranking Trainers.

On the other hand, if you’re on the hunt for a strong Fairy-type attacker for Raid Battles, you’ll find that Gardevoir is an excellent choice. Even better, Mega Gardevoir is the best Fairy-type attacker in the entire game, so it’s worth getting a good one and stocking up on Mega Energy when the time comes.
