As manager of the under-10 team, Jardine joined Internacional in 2003. During his ten-year tenure, he took charge of every young division in the club; the under-20s were his final squad.

Following his appointment as under-17 manager, he made his way back to Grêmio on September 24, 2013. Jardine was appointed temporary manager on July 27, 2014, following the departure of Enderson Moreira. He managed one game, a 2–1 loss to Vitória, prior to Luiz Felipe Scolari’s appointment.

Afterward, he was appointed assistant, but following confrontations with Scolari, he concluded the season as the under-15 coordinator.

After relocating to São Paulo in February 2015, Jardine was given the responsibility of leading the under-20 team. Before being appointed assistant in March 2018, he served as temporary manager twice, in 2016 and 2018.

He took over for the fired Diego Aguirre on November 11, 2018, and was named interim until the end of the season.

Jardine was named Tricolor’s 2019 season manager on November 25, 2018. On February 14, however, he was relieved of his managerial responsibilities while still being employed by the club.

After Carlos Amadeu was sacked, Jardine assumed leadership of the Brazil national under-20 squad on April 3, 2019. Subsequently that year, he also became leader of the under-23 team after Sylvinho resigned. After defeating Spain in the final, Brazil went on to win the gold medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics.

During Jardine’s first season in charge, América only dropped two games: the season opener versus Juárez and the second leg of the playoffs versus Atlético San Luis, the old team Jardine. América won both games 5-2 on aggregate.
