Samsung takes on Google Assistant with its Bixby digital assistant on mobile devices, smart TVs and smartwatches running the Tizen operating system. Bixby is not only focused on answering user questions, but also handling offline tasks on the phone. Samsung has a neatly packaged Bixby Routine add-on that performs a number of on-device functions based on voice commands.
What is Bixby Routine?
Samsung’s Bixby Routine is your predefined set of rules that trigger whenever a certain phrase or command is said to the digital assistant. It follows the ‘If This Then That’ format of everything.
Bixby will perform actions based on your settings using rules or commands. For instance, you can set Bixby to share your calendar events every morning, or show it whenever you ask it to. Read on to find out how to set it up.
Where is the Bixby schedule
Bixby Routines is part of the Bixby digital assistant. You can access it from Bixby’s main menu. Press and hold the Power key on your phone to wake up the Bixby assistant.
From the bottom menu, tap the little Home icon and it will open Bixby’s main menu. Now tap on the hamburger menu at the top left and select Quick Commands from the following menu.
By default, Bixby provides several ready-to-go Bixby commands. You can use them and edit tasks or create one from scratch. Here we will create a Bixby command from the home screen and add tasks based on our preferences.
Create a Bixby command
Now that you know what a Bixby command is and how to access it, let’s create a Bixby routine.
Step 1: Go to Bixby Home and open Quick Commands.
Step 2: Click the + icon in the upper right corner.
Step 3: First, you need to specify a quick statement or phrase. We have added “What’s Up” as a quick command.
Step 4: In the What Bixby does menu, tap the Add a command option.
Step 5: Here, you can see all the apps that support the Bixby command.
For this post, we will be using a combination of Calendar, Email, time and weather conditions.
Step 6: Select Calendar and touch ‘Show my schedule’ from the following menu.
Step 7: Go back and select the Gmail app. Tap ‘In Gmail show my email’.
Each time, you will have to select the Add command option to continue adding commands to the phrase.
Step 8: Select Date and Time, then tap ‘What time is it?’ work.
Step 9: Now select the Weather Channel app and you will see that the command we want to use is not listed here.
You can select Enter at the bottom and use the built-in keyboard to enter custom commands. We entered the query “How is the weather today” for the Weather Channel app.
From the main menu, you’ll see the last Bixby phrase and the actions associated with that phrase. You can always tap the x and delete the command or change the position of the command.
For example, you want Bixby to announce the time first, then schedule, email, and weather. Drag and drop the ‘What time is it’ command to the top and you can use the Save button at the bottom.
Return to the main screen. Wake up Bixby with the side button or the ‘Hey Bixby’ voice command. Say the command ‘What’s up’ and Bixby will perform actions based on your set commands. Look at the screenshot and you’ll see Bixby in action showing the current time, upcoming day’s schedule, Gmail, and today’s weather details.
Here are a few other Bixby habits you can implement in your life.
Add the phrase “Good night” and Bixby will do the following.
- Turn on do not disturb
- Turn off AoD (Always On Display)
- Set an alarm at 8 am tomorrow
- turn on location
- What’s the weather like tomorrow?
- Read tomorrow’s schedule
Add the phrase “I am driving” and Bixby will perform the following actions.
- Turn on Bluetooth
- Turn off Wi-Fi in Settings
- Play playlists on the way to work
Delete Bixby commands
If you no longer need Bixby commands, open the Bixby home page and navigate to Quick Commands > My Commands. Tap the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner and select Delete. Select the orders that you want to delete and confirm your decision.
