4 Interesting Productivity Tips for Preview on Mac

Preview tip

If you have a Mac and work with images from time to time, then you’ve certainly heard of the most popular image editing apps, like

photoshop

and so. However, if there’s one tool that can surprise you with its image management/editing capabilities on Mac, it’s Preview.

In fact, we have written about it before in this post and in this post we show you how powerful this often underrated utility can be.

This time, we show you some other cool tips that can make your experience with Preview on Mac much better and improve your productivity.

Ready? Let’s go.

1. Delete files directly from preview

I don’t know if this has ever happened to you, but it sure has happened to me a lot: I was working with a large batch of images in Preview and I saw a few of them that I didn’t. needed. Before I knew about this trick, I had to go back to the folder containing the images and search for them individually to delete them.

Now, if you have some images open in Preview, you can trash them right from the thumbnail sidebar.

To do that, simply click on the thumbnail of the image(s) you want to remove and do one of the following:

– Right click on them and select Move to Trash.– Use keyboard shortcuts Command + Delete.

2. Create a file from the Clipboard

This is a very nice feature of Preview that very few people know about, let alone use.

Whenever you come across an image you like while browsing the web or your Mac, you don’t have to save it and open it in Preview later. Instead, just copy the image to the clipboard, open Preview, and then:

– Click Document and then select New from Clipboard.– Use Command + FEMALE movie off.

3. File Sharing

The latest versions of OS X emphasize sharing. This is no exception for Preview and you can fully take advantage of this feature when working with any other image or file on it.

To share any file or image from Preview, just select it and click Share at the top of the window on the toolbar.

Share photos

4. Get the app’s icon

So imagine that for some reason you like an icon from an app on your Mac, or you need to use that icon for a presentation. Normally, getting that image using a screen capture utility would be a rather tedious task, as utilities like this only capture whatever is on the screen, including the background image. However, with Preview you can get the icons of this app easily.

To do that, just find the app for which you want to get the icon and right click on it. Then choose Copy from the available options.

Then open the preview and use the tip mentioned above to create the file from the clipboard.

Result? You’ll have a shiny app icon without any background right in front of you for you to modify in Preview.
