3 Easy Ways to Turn Off Copilot on Windows 11

1. Remove Copilot via Windows 11 Settings App 

Removing Copilot is pretty straightforward. We would use Windows Settings to hide the Copilot button in the taskbar. Follow the below steps. 

Step 1: Right-click on the Taskbar and choose Taskbar settings from the menu.

Note: Alternatively, open the Settings app > Personalization > Taskbar to reach Taskbar Settings.

Step 2: Under Taskbar items, turn off the toggle for Copilot (preview).

That’s about it. The Windows Copilot is now hidden. Note that this will not disable Copilot completely, but it will remove the icon from the taskbar. You can still launch it by pressing the Windows + C shortcut key.

2. Remove Copilot on Windows 11 via Registry

This is the easiest way to disable Copilot on Windows. However, the steps can be tricky if not followed well. Furthermore, we will work with the Registry Editor on this method.

Before moving ahead, we suggest you back up your Windows Registry. Once done, follow the steps below to disable the Settings app in Windows 11.

Step 1: Press the Windows key on your keyboard, type Registry Editor, and click ‘Run as administrator.’ 

Note: You can press ‘Windows key + R’ to open the Run command box, type regedit.exe, and click OK to open the Registry Editor.

Finally, close the Registry Editor and restart your Windows PC. When the system restarts, the Settings app will no longer be accessible to anyone. 

If you want to revert, follow the above steps and switch the value from 1 to 0 for the ShowCopilotButton DWORD in Step 4. Now, if you don’t want to disable Windows Copilot through the Registry Editor, you can do it through the Group Policy Editor as well.

3. Turn Off Copilot on Windows 11 via Group Policy 

Most of the settings on Windows can be well controlled by the Group Policy Editor, and the Windows Copilot is no exception. Here’s how to remove Copilot from the Taskbar on Windows 11.

Note: The Group Policy Editor is only available in the Windows 11 Pro and Enterprise versions. If you are using Windows 11 Home Editor, you cannot use this method.

Step 1: Press the Windows keys on your keyboard, type gpedit, and click Open.

Note: You can press ‘Windows key + R’ to open the Run command box, type gpedit.msc, and click Open.
