Google offers Keep for taking notes and the recently launched Tasks app for task management. While reminders are available separately in Google Keep and Assistant, both provide their own lists. You guessed right! Google isn’t sure what it wants to do with its notes, reminders, tasks, and lists. However, it looks like things are changing for the better (or worse).
Assistant now comes with built-in feature to save notes and lists. What is this new list and note service on Assistant and how to use it? Let’s find out together in this article.

What happened to take care of yourself?
Before that, one would use the ‘Notes to Yourself’ or ‘Create Notes’ commands to add notes to our favorite note-taking app. Recently, however, that hasn’t worked. Saying the command ‘Note to yourself’ activates the Assistant’s note-taking capabilities. However, the Assistant saves notes inside itself. That’s because Assistant now comes with a built-in note-taking and listing service.
1. What are new notes and lists?
The new service includes your existing shopping list, the ability to add multiple lists/tasks, and a native note-taking service. These functions are not available in a separate application. You need to activate Assistant and ask Assistant to create and view your notes and lists.
2. Create notes
Perform the usual commands, ‘Notes’, ‘Notes for yourself’ or ‘Create notes’ to add notes in the new service. Google will then ask you to add the note text. You can also directly say the command followed by the text of the note.
Alternatively, use input mode to paste something into a note or to add a long-form note. For that, tap the keyboard icon in Google Assistant. Then, type any note command that follows your note.
3. See all your notes
To see all your notes saved with the Google Assistant, say the command “Show my notes” or “What are my notes”. The assistant will announce the number of saved notes along with a preview of the five recently added notes. Touch the View all notes button to check all the saved notes.
4. Edit notes
While you can create notes using Google Home, editing is only available through your phone. For that, first issue the command, ‘Show my notes’ and tap the View all notes button. The Assistant will take you to a dedicated Notes and Lists screen.
Here, tap on the note you want to edit and the app will take you to the editing options on the next screen. You can even add a title.
Tip:
5. Delete notes
You will need a phone to delete a note. Go to the dedicated Notes and Lists screen by saying ‘What’s my note.’ Tap the note you want to delete and tap the delete icon. A confirmation pop-up will appear. Click Yes.
Note:
6. Create a list
The cool thing about this new feature is that you can create and work with multiple lists. All you have to say is ‘Create List’ to create a new list. The assistant will ask you to name it, then the content you want to add.
7. Add items to the list
In case of multiple lists, you need to specify the list name the next time you want to add an item. For instance, if I had a list named GT, I would have to say ‘Add articles to my GT list’.
Just saying the words “Add to my list” prompts the Assistant to ask you for the list name.
8. View item list
To view items in a specific list, ask the Assistant ‘What’s on Me [list name] list’? The assistant will announce the number of items in that particular list in addition to displaying the items.
9. Edit and delete lists
After you ask the Assistant ‘What’s on my [name] list’ you will get a preview of the list with the option to see all the items. Tap View List to open the main view. Here, tap the list name to edit it. To delete it, tap the Delete icon.
To delete an item in the list, swipe the item from either direction, then tap Delete. To complete a task, tap the box before the list item. All completed tasks will be available under Bookmarked.
Currently, you can’t rename or rearrange items in a list, functionality available in native to-do apps like Microsoft To-Do.
10. View all listings
To see all your lists, ask the Assistant “Show my lists” or “What’s my list”. Tap the list name to go to the edit screen. Tap the back button to see all your listings.
You will be taken to the dedicated Lists and Notes screen. You can also view this screen while you are editing a note.
11. Add notes without an assistant
When you’re on the Assistant’s Notes and Lists screen, tap the more icon at the bottom to create a new note or list without the Assistant’s help. Technically, you need to use Assistant to open this screen as it’s not available otherwise.
All that glitters is not gold
Google may be working on some basic fixes to the Lists and Notes feature in the Assistant. Currently, an option specifically for Notes and Lists is missing from the Google Assistant Settings for most phones.
While notes and lists inside the Assistant are a welcome change, commands like Add Notes to Evernote no longer work. Still don’t know if it’s a bug or Google has removed it on purpose. If the latter is true, then I hope that by integrating notes in the Assistant, Google is looking at something more prominent here.
