1. Research object of the subject
The object of the subject’s research is the top layer of natural rock in the earth’s crust. For the construction industry, it is necessary to master the basic concepts of engineering geology, the process of soil formation creates many types of soil with different properties.
Soil is not a continuous object, but an object made up of many small mineral particles, of different sizes. These particles form a structural framework with many holes, which usually contain water and gas. In the structural framework, soil particles can be arranged discretely or held together by bonds much weaker than the strength of the particles themselves.
googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-1655881641472-0’); });
It is these characteristics that make the soil have different properties compared to other materials, and at the same time make the mechanical phenomena occur in the soil according to its own specific laws.
In order to use land for construction of traffic works well, it is necessary to determine the bearing capacity and deformation of the soil under the effect of its load and pressure on the barriers.

CHAPTER 1
PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF SOIL
1.1. Earth Formation
The main composition of soil is soil particles, soil particles of different sizes, they are created by the destruction of the original rock layers by physical, chemical, and process effects. called the weathering process. The process of soil and rock weathering is classified into three types: physical weathering, chemical weathering and biological weathering.
googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-1655881641472-0’); });
These three types of weathering often work together for a long time, causing the rock layers on the surface to be broken, then due to the effect of water currents of the wind, those particles are swept away. Depending on the size of the large and small particles, in the process of moving they will be deposited or fall to form different soil layers. The process of moving and depositing weathering products is called sedimentation, three-quarters of the continent’s surface is covered with sedimentary rock layers, the rest are areas that still retain mineral composition such as bedrock. or change little.

The deposited particles are piled on top of each other, between them there is no binding force that is the layer of sand, pebbles, gravel, this type is generally loose soil. Small particles with a size of a few thousandths of a millimeter are usually colloidal and electrically charged, when deposited they bind together into layers of soil known collectively as cohesive soil or clay.
1-2. Main components of soil
googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-1655881641472-0’); });
The main composition of soil is soil particles. Soil particles have different sizes and shapes, so when arranged together, there will be voids, these voids in nature usually contain water and air. Water and air in the voids have a significant influence on the properties of the soil, so when studying the soil, it must be clay to these parts, so the soil is a three-phase object: The hard phase is the soil particle, the liquid phase is the soil particle. water in the void, the gas phase is the gas in the void.
1.2.1. Soil grain
Soil particles are the main components of the soil. When bearing an external force on the ground, the soil particles bear the same force, so it is called the set of soil particles as the backbone of the soil. Soil particles have different shapes and sizes depending on the effects of weathering and movement and deposition.
googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-1655881641472-0’); });
To classify and name soil particles, people use the concept of average diameter of the grain, this is the diameter of the circle surrounding the largest cross section of that soil particle.
1.2.2. Water in the ground
Water in the soil has a great influence on the bearing properties of the soil, water exists in the soil in many different forms, with each form having a certain influence on the different properties of the soil. the following form
googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-1655881641472-0’); });
a, Water in minerals of soil particles
This is the type of water located in the mineral crystal of the soil grain, it exists in the form of H . molecules2O or in the form of ions H+ and OH–. This type of water has little effect on the mechanical properties of the soil.
b, Water combined with the outer surface of the soil
googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-1655881641472-0’); });
This is the type of water that is retained on the surface of the soil particles under the action of physicochemical forces. Depending on the degree of strong and weak combination, they are classified into 2 types:
– Adsorbent water: Water that adheres very tightly to the outside of soil particles, it cannot directly move from one particle to another, but only moves in the form of evaporation.

– Thin film water: It is the type of water that covers the outside of the absorbent water. This type of water has little effect on the mechanical properties of the soil.

– Thin film water: It is the type of water that covers the outside of the absorbent water. This type of water has little effect on the mechanical properties of the soil.
c, Free water
This type of water is outside the range of molecular attraction, this type is classified into 2 types: Gravity water and capillary water.
googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-1655881641472-0’); });
Gravity water: Is natural water located in the pores of the soil, it can move from one place to another under the action of gravity, commonly known as groundwater or spring water. When flowing through holes, with high infiltration rate it can generate hydrodynamic pressure on soil particles.
Capillary water: is water that rises along the pore lines between soil particles under the action of capillary forces. Capillary water increases soil moisture, reduces the bearing capacity of the substrate, and increases the specific gravity of the soil. This type of water has a significant effect on the mechanical properties of the soil.
1.2.3. Air in the ground
googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-1655881641472-0’); });
If there is no water in the holes of the earth, then the gas takes place in the holes. There are two types of gas in soil, free gas and dissolved gas. In general, the composition of the gas has little effect on the mechanical properties of the soil, it only affects the permeability of the soil, hindering the infiltration of water.
1.3. Texture of the soil
Soil texture is the arrangement of soil particles together, which has a significant influence on the physical and mechanical properties of the soil. The texture of the soil depends on the formation process and lasts for a long time, so it is very diverse. The structure of the soil is usually divided into the following three categories:

In the structural framework, soil particles can be arranged discretely or held together by bonds much weaker than the strength of the particles themselves.
googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-1655881641472-0’); });
2. Content and characteristics of the course

The task of the subject is to determine the operating rules of natural geological phenomena affecting construction works. The determination of the basic laws of mechanical processes occurring in the soil and the computational characteristics of the soil is a complex dispersion object, studying the stress-strain state of the soil at different stages of deformation. different forms, solving problems of load-bearing strength and stability of soil masses as well as the problem of soil pressure on the barrier.
The characteristic of the subject is the study of a very complex object, consisting of many components with different properties, and at the same time closely dependent on the surrounding conditions. Therefore, while studying the subject, in addition to using theoretical methods, we must also attach great importance to experimental methods in the laboratory and in the field.

CHAPTER 1
PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF SOIL
1.1. Earth Formation
The main composition of soil is soil particles, soil particles of different sizes, they are created by the destruction of the original rock layers by physical, chemical, and process effects. called the weathering process. The process of soil and rock weathering is classified into three types: physical weathering, chemical weathering and biological weathering.
googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-1655881641472-0’); });

1-2. Main components of soil
googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-1655881641472-0’); });
Soil particles have different shapes and sizes depending on the effects of weathering and movement and deposition.
googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-1655881641472-0’); });
To classify and name soil particles, people use the concept of average diameter of the grain, this is the diameter of the circle surrounding the largest cross section of that soil particle.
1.2.2. Water in the ground
Water in the soil has a great influence on the bearing properties of the soil, water exists in the soil in many different forms, with each form having a certain influence on the different properties of the soil. the following form

a, Water in minerals of soil particles
This is the type of water located in the mineral crystal of the soil grain, it exists in the form of H . molecules2O or in the form of ions H+ and OH–. This type of water has little effect on the mechanical properties of the soil.
b, Water combined with the outer surface of the soil
googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-1655881641472-0’); });

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-1655881641472-0’); });
googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-1655881641472-0’); });
googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-1655881641472-0’); });

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-1655881641472-0’); });
Ba loại phong hoá trên thường tác dụng đồng thời trong thời gian dài làm cho các lớp đá trên mặt bị vỡ vụn, sau đó do tác dụng của dòng nước của gió làm các hạt đó bị cuốn đi nơi khác. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-1655881641472-0’); });
Giáo trình cơ học đất – địa chất được biên soạn làm cơ sở cho việc giảng dạy và học tập môn học Cơ học đất và địa chất công trình của học viên hệ trung học cầu đường của trường Trung học Cầu đường và dạy nghề thuộc Tổng công ty xây dựng Trường Sơn.
Giáo trình gồm 8 chương:
Chương 1. Các tính chất vật lý của đất
googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-1655881641472-0’); });

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-1655881641472-0’); });
googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-1655881641472-0’); });
googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-1655881641472-0’); });

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘div-gpt-ad-1655881641472-0’); });
