Although Android and iOS have now captured a significant share of the smartphone market and RIM (the maker of Blackberry phones) and Nokia, the leaders of the previous years have now dwindled, BlackBerry is still the leader. The typical phone of office executives in many parts of the world.
A few days ago, my brother-in-law’s owner gave him a BlackBerry, and there’s only one thing stopping him from using it: the contacts he has on his Android phone.
He comes from a financial background so he doesn’t know much about syncing and the like. Furthermore, he was not comfortable with the IT guys in his office having full access to his Android phone and that’s why I stepped in.
Self-identified as an insider geek, I have to help my friends and relatives whenever they encounter technical problems but this time the problem is a bit complicated. Since these official phones have security keys, I can’t install any third party apps like Google Sync to easily transfer contacts. Furthermore, Google Sync has some limitations and does not sync all contact data, such as caller pictures.
After a bit of research and several hours of brainstorming, I was finally able to export all my contacts from Android to BlackBerry along with all the associated information and contact pictures. So, if you also want to transfer contacts quickly and easily, be prepared and ready with these necessary prerequisites.
Ready
- Data cable. While you can also connect via WiFi, for the purposes of this article we will focus on doing it via a USB connection.
- Install Android Phone Explorer and Blackberry Desktop Software on your computer.
- If you’re using Microsoft Outlook to store contacts on your computer, create a new Outlook profile and set it as the default for the time being.
Let’s get started now…
Copy Contacts from Android to Outlook.
Step 1: Run Android Phone Manager on the computer, and connect Android to the computer via USB cable. Enable USB Debugging option on your Android and connect it in Charge Only mode.
Step 2: Now click File -> Connect to connect to your phone. The app will automatically identify your phone and ask you to add it.
Step 3: Once done with that, click File and open Setting. Here, open the sync section and select Outlook 2007/2010 as Contact Sync Source.
Step 4: Click the blue Sync button on the program to start the synchronization process. The program will show you a confirmation confirmation screen. All contacts will be synced with your Outlook profile.
Step 5: After the program finishes the synchronization, open your Outlook contact page to see all the newly created contact cards.
Now that we have all of our Android contacts on Outlook, we’ll sync them to the BlackBerry.
Copy contacts from Outlook to Blackberry
Step 1: Remove the Android device that is connected to the computer and plug in the BlackBerry. Open the BlackBerry Desktop manager and provide any secure password to authenticate your phone.
Step 2: Once the app recognizes your phone, open the Organizer and click configure settings to configure the sync of contacts from Outlook to BlackBerry.
Follow the steps in the screenshot below.
Step 3: When everything is ready, start Syncing Contacts. All your Outlook contacts (formerly from Android) will be synced to your BlackBerry device instantly.
Conclusion
That’s it, you have successfully transferred all your contacts along with their contact picture and all other additional information from Android to BlackBerry. If you run into any problems during this process, don’t hesitate to ask in the comments section. If you know of other better ways, let us know about them.
