Lidia Giuliana Matticchio Bastianich is Lidia Bastianich’s full name. She is an author, television host, celebrity chef, and restaurateur of Italian descent. Bastianich, who specializes in Italian and Italian-American cooking, has been a consistent contributor to cookery programs on public television since 1998.

When Lidia and her husband Felice first launched the Buonavia restaurant in Queens, she worked as a hostess before starting her training to become the assistant chef the following year.
They launched Secondo, a restaurant in Queens where Bastianich was well-known for performing live cooking demos.
The Bastianich family sold Buonavia and Secondo when Lidia’s father passed away in 1981 and bought a townhouse in Manhattan that was already home to a restaurant.
The new restaurant opened after $750,000 in renovations, and Felidia went on to garner Lidia several James Beard Foundation nominations for “Best Chef in New York.”
Joe, Lidia and Felice’s son, persuaded them to partner with him in 1993 to build the Becco restaurant in the Theater District.
Since the new eatery was a hit, the Bastianich family started opening locations in other states, starting in 1998 with Lidia’s Kansas City.
Joe rose to the position of a chief sommelier for the restaurant company by the end of the 1990s. In 2010, Lidia, Joe, and Oscar Farinetti launched the Italian store Eataly in Manhattan, with Bastianich instructing seminars in cooking and gastronomy at La Scuola, Eataly’s school.
In addition to opening Eataly facilities in Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas, they also launched a second branch in Manhattan in 2016.
In 2010, Lidia collaborated with QVC to develop her own cookware collection, Lidia’s Kitchen, and she and Tanya launched Nonna Foods, a company that sells a variety of pasta and sauces.
Lidia made an appearance on an episode of “Julia Child: Cooking With Master Chefs” in 1993, and in 1998, Public Television gave her her own show, “Lidia’s Italian Table.”
The award-winning programs “Lidia Celebrates America: Holiday Tables & Traditions” (2011) and “Lidia Celebrates America: Holiday for Heroes” (2012) are just a couple of the shows that Bastianich has hosted on Public Television (2016).

In Pola, Italy, on February 21, 1947, Lidia Giuliana Matticchio Bastianich was born just before the city was given to Yugoslavia in September 1947. (which is now part of Istria County, Croatia). Erminia (1921-2021) and Vittorio Matticchio are her parents (1911–1980). She and her family spent their time in Yugoslavia, where they Slavicized their last name from Matticchio to Motika, from there till 1956.
