Kathy Griffin was born on November 4, 1960, to first-generation Irish-American parents Mary Margaret “Maggie” Griffin and John Patrick Griffin in the Chicago suburb of Oak Park, Illinois.

Kenny, Joyce, Gary, and John, Kathy Griffin’s four older siblings, are all men. Griffin once characterized herself as a young child who constantly needed to talk. Both her sister Joyce and her brother Gary passed away from cancer.
