How To Add Background Wallpaper To Google Homepage

Important UPDATE: Google has discontinued this feature and you can no longer directly add wallpapers to Google. However, we have covered certain workarounds by which you can get that feature back. Check out that article by clicking here -> How to get Google background images back on Chrome and Firefox.

Google recently rolled out the wallpaper feature (see update above). There is nothing innovative in Google’s move because they just copied the most outstanding feature of Microsoft Bing (by the way, you can check out the Bing theme pack and wallpaper collection). Having said that, I love this feature because now, I don’t need to visit Bing as often to check those cool wallpapers anymore.

This feature is currently only available on Google.com.vn. If you try to open a local version of Google, such as Google.co.in, you won’t find those settings. So let’s switch to Google.com first. Click on the link provided below the search box as shown in the screenshot below.

You are now on Google.com. Not to be confused with the beta tag in the screenshot below as I am using the https version of Google. Now click on the “Add wallpaper” link.

It will redirect you to the login page. Enter your Google login (you can also use your Gmail account login details).

A dialog box will appear displaying a public image gallery. You can choose any wallpaper in the collection. Alternatively, you can choose a background image from the “Editor’s Choice” section.

On the left side, click the “From my computer” tab. Now select the image from your computer. Note that the size of the image should be the same as the size of the Google homepage. You will get the best results. This image will be added to your Picasa Document Box folder.

Note: Whenever you sign in with your Google account on another computer, a link will appear that says “Google Home Wallpaper”. Click on it to get the background that you have set up by following the steps above. You don’t need to add background multiple times on different computers.

That’s how you can add custom backgrounds/images to Google. Let us know what you think of this feature.
